MARKET OPPORTUNITIES
For instance, in 2024, the Belgian vehicle fleet consisted of 8,702,773 vehicles (cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, etc.) and only 6% of them are electric vehicles, highlighting a significant electrification potential, with 94% of the fleet yet to transition. This type of analysis can be explored across multiple dimensions.
MARKET OPPORTUNITIES
In 2025, 384,210 vehicles left the fleet, while 413,221 new vehicles entered the fleet, resulting in a net increase. Among these new registrations, 38.4% were electric vehicles (that's 158,894 vehicles!), showing the accelerating shift towards electrification.
MARKET OPPORTUNITIES
By the end of 2025, the Belgian vehicle fleet reached 8,828,397 vehicles. This included 6,070,108 passenger cars, 915,328 vans, 474,976 motorcycles and 2‑wheelers, as well as 91,359 trucks and tractor units, among other vehicle categories. Did you know that the average age of passenger cars in the fleet is 10.2 years?
Engine and Powertrain trends
The passenger car fleet is still dominated by internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. However, hybrid and electric technologies already dominate new registrations. In 2025, around 56% of all new passenger car registrations were either fully electric vehicles or hybrid alternatives.

Electric transition Drivers
In 2025, nine out of ten battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were registered by companies and leasing operators, making them the primary drivers of the electrification of the fleet. Private buyers, meanwhile, still show a clear preference for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Market Analysis
In 2025, 579,000 new vehicles were registered, including 415,000 passenger cars, 71,000 vans, 52,000 motorcycles and 2‑wheelers, and 9,000 trucks, along with 33,000 other vehicle types such as motorhomes and tractors.
Market Analysis
Looking specifically at new passenger car registrations, 44% were either BEV or PHEV, compared to just 3% diesel vehicles, highlighting a sharp shift in powertrain preferences.
Market Analysis
Approximately one-third of new passenger car registrations are fully electric, with corporate fleets and leasing companies accounting for the majority of these registrations (89%).
CO2 EMISSIONS
In 2025, the downward trend continued, reaching an average of 63 gCO₂/km for new passenger car registrations by the end of the year.
CO2 EMISSIONS
The average CO₂ emissions of new vehicle registrations have been steadily declining over recent years. This downward trend is largely driven by the increasing share of fully electric and hybrid vehicles, which are gradually replacing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles as they exit the fleet.
